Last month a consultant performing archeological investigation on a mine site was struck by lightning, this incident serves as an excellent reminder to employees in lightning safety and awareness. We are already planning for our 2010 safety and health conference, also navigate our web page for new training fees and schedules. |

On July 1, 2009 we will begin charging mining companies $20 per class, in order to maintain our level of service. There are still a number of questions regarding accident reporting. |

The New Mexico Health and Safety conference was held in Socorro May 4th through 6th. We had over 100 attendees this year who participated in a very informative program. |

Coal mine fatality number five occurred when Tyson J. Mayall, a 29 year old rock truck driver from Manchester, Alabama, suffered fatal crushing injuries in a powered haulage accident. We would like to take the time to remind all miners of the importance of blocking hydraulic systems. |

Our next planning meeting for the New Mexico Health and Safety conference themed "Step Up and Do the Right Thing" is scheduled for March 12th at 9:00 am in Socorro. Fees for training, The Bureau of Mine Safety has considered charging a fee for training for quite some time. |

The total number of miners killed on the job in the United States in 2008 was 51. That number is the fewest number of deaths since officials began keeping records nearly a century ago. Also the 2009 New Mexico Health and Safety Conference will be held May 4th through 6th in Socorro. "Step Up and Do the Right Thing" is this years theme.
